New England Snow Means At-Home Workouts

Raise your hand if you’re currently swimming in snow! We all are in New England. From blizzards to light snowfall, there really haven’t been any false alarms from the Weather Channel. Another snow storm on Thursday? Let’s hope the prediction is wrong here. My regular 6am wake-up call to hit the gym has been replaced…Who wants to roll out of bed to put on a hat, mittens, boots, and trudge through the snow to scrape ice off their car? Not this girl! Instead, I’ve been rolling out of bed and onto my yoga mat for some efficient morning workouts.

I’m going to share a few of my absolute favorite websites for at-home workouts. Whether you’ve got 10 minutes, 30 minutes, or want to work arms/legs/booty/abs/full body or cardio – you’ll find it all! I linked to my most recent favorites below!

And I’ve been following some of my favorite bloggers for workouts and videos, too! In the past week I’ve completed both of these workouts and loved them – Pumps and Iron Bodyweight Circuit and Fitnessista’s Barre Burner.

CHEERS to staying active!

  • What’s your favorite way to get moving when you’re stuck inside all day? I’m up for ideas 🙂

Back in Action with HIIT, AFAA Certification, & a Twenty-Something Job Update

Hi there! I’m back & ready to roll with new workouts, recipes, plus doses upon doses of inspiration. Please excuse my 3 week break, especially after creating an official domain for this site, how cool is that! I’ve got some other news up my sleeve, too..

About a month ago, I got my first post-college job jumping into a career in marketing. I’m managing social media accounts, editing blogs, & also managing client events. I have my hands full with all that new-ness, but I’m happy I do! It was also so unexpected at the time. I told you this year was the year of uncertainty. I’m liking it that way. I don’t want to ever stop blogging though, it’s way too much fun!

I’ve also received my AFAA certification in Group Exercise!! I’m TOO excited about this, it makes me SO happy. I’m not sure what I want to teach yet, but I have plenty of time to narrow it down through teaching & maybe eventually go on to specialize further. Unlimited opportunities.

AFAA Cert.

I also have a new HIIT routine for you to start your week! I just completed it today & it kept me engaged on the treadmill instead of bored-out-of-my-mind. It actually flew by & with country music blasting summer tunes in my ears, I loved every minute.

updated 5mi intervals

I went into the gym knowing I wanted to complete 5 miles of intervals without burning myself out halfway through. I warmed up & then completed one full circuit of intervals before a 2 minute recovery at speed 6 & then repeating the same circuit 4 times. The 2 minutes at speed 6 was the perfect recovery for me each time, without actually cooling down, I had no problem catching my breath & then increasing my speed again & again. This routine is super easy to tweak, too – 2 minutes at speed 5 & then 6, 6.3, 6.5, 6.7, 7 – whatever you want!

WELL, it’s Sunday afternoon & I’m about to go frost THIS paleo carrot cake, in honor of everyone helping me pick out my NEW car I got just yesterday!

CHEERS to exciting times!

Fit Link Friday [2.7]

FRIDAY

If you didn’t know it was Friday, now you certainly do 😉 Hope you had a wonderful week & accomplished some really great things for yourself, just like I talked about on Monday’s post. I set a goal to practice Crow Pose each day & proved the theory that one’s balance is not the same 2 days in a row.. especially not yesterday!

Anyways, it’s Fit Link Friday, so below is a round-up of articles that intrigued me this week in the health & fitness world.

5 Signs You’re Taking Your Diet Too Far

Sometimes it’s nice to take a step back from the clean eating bandwagon, & actually check-in with our intentions & be mindful of how our bodies feel. Author & Registered Dietitian, Cynthia Sass, reminds us to keep in check with our healthy patterns to ensure we are helping our bodies, not harming them.

10 Minute Booty Workout

OKAY, I didn’t feel like heading to the gym yesterday so I did a series of workouts in the living room. This 10 minute workout isolated one glute, one hammy, one leg at a time for an entire circuit & baby did it BURN. So, naturally, I 100% recommend it for you 😉 A quick workout, totally worth every minute. Let me know how you feel after!

Paleo Buffalo Chicken Pizza

Paleo Buffalo Chicken Pizza

I made this last week & got several likes on Instagram, so I decided you need the recipe from The Cave Girl Dish. For the ‘ranch’ I didn’t use ghee, because I currently know nothing about it. I do have a love for grapeseed oil veganaise, so I substituted that for the ghee & it tasted delicious! We sprinkled some cilantro on top for color & dipped a side of veggies into our leftover ‘ranch.’ Definitely put this recipe on your to-do list.

Winter Olympics 2014: Top Photos Of The Day

Into the Olympics? These photos are pretty killer & I have a feeling we’ll be getting overloaded with slideshows like these everyday.. I don’t mind! I could watch snowboard & ski jumps all day long. I may even like Winter Olympics better than Summer!

How Do You Feel About the Biggest Loser Controversy?

Cosmo sums up the controversy well, getting down to the very point of the show which is to WIN. Many are upset with the show, NBC, & the trainers about the amount of weight this young woman lost in such a short amount of time. As we get caught up in our gut-reacting feelings, it’s easy to forget that the whole point of the show is to lose the most weight & win. I’m not saying this is a good thing, but Cosmo brutally tells us the truth, that it’s just a typical reality show where people sign up to do whatever it takes to win.

Grab your coffee cup, CHEERS to a super weekend!

HIIT the Gym With Me!

I LOVE high intensity interval training (HIIT)! Not only an amazing fat burner, but you’ll increase your speed & be able to squeeze in a tough workout on days that you don’t have a ton of time. Below are my go-to workouts at the gym! Some of them are brand spankin’ new, while others I have been using for years. Although I’m a lady & most of these workouts are from girly websites, they will have your guy friends huffing & puffing (right, J 😉 ) While they are all cardiovascular, some are for running on the treadmill while others are simply no-equipment bodyweight routines you can do anytime/anywhere. The beauty of it all is that you can modify each routine to your skill level. For example in the summer I only ran outside, so by the time it got chilly & I headed for the treadmill, I was so out-of-interval-shape (yes, correct terminology there). If sprinting at speed 8 felt too fast, I’d sprint at speed 7. If jogging at speed 6 felt like too much, I’d walk at speed 4. This is why I love intervals! If I want to run 5 miles, I will. If I want to run 1.5 miles, I don’t beat myself up because it’s still such an amazing workout reaping with benefits!

45 Min Fat Burning Intervals

45 Minute Fat Burning Treadmill Workout

This is what I did yesterday! I’m not saying it was easy because when it was over I was happy, but I felt so accomplished to get my speed back up & my whole body felt it! I walked it out for 5 extra minutes afterwards.

Rolling Hills Treadmill Workout

This is my go-to when I don’t want to run fast or work on my speed. The hills are definitely challenging, but there is no sprinting involved. I always feel it in my legs the next day!

40 Minute ‘Lazy Girl’ Workout

Blogger Peanut Butter Fingers has some amazing workouts on her site that I’ve been following for years. The ‘Lazy Girl’ routine has been dragging me to the gym since 2011. When I know I want to do intervals, but just can’t muster the energy, I call on this workout! It starts with walking, so I slowly get my body into it & by the end, I honestly don’t want to stop! It’s that good.

Tone It Up: Love Your Body with HIIT

Tone It Up HIIT Bodyweight Routine

I tried this 20 minute exercise for the first time this morning. The Tone it Up girls definitely know what they’re doing! I regularly follow their routines & they make me feel like I’m working out right along with my girlfriends.

20 Minute Total Body Tabata

I started using this one in December when I didn’t want to leave the house for the gym! A killer workout only 20 minutes long. On days I feel ‘too busy’ to exercise, I turn here!

CHEERS to burning that booty!
